ECON 344. Public Finance - The economic role of governments in
market economies. Public goods, externalities, income distribution,
and income maintenance programs. The effect of taxes on economic
behavior, descriptions of the structure of the principal U.S. taxes,
and current reform proposals. Nonmajor graduate credit.

Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer and Leadership Intern

Purpose
The intern position exists for an individual to gain experience and assist the Iowa Farm Bureau in the implementation the Young Farmer program and leadership development activities. The Young Farmer program provides education and networking for young farmers. The Leadership program helps volunteers develop their abilities to lead county Farm Bureaus. The candidate should have strong verbal and written skills and will need to be adaptable to handle a variety of activities with Farm Bureau staff and volunteer involvement.

Projects & Responsibilities
·         Preparation and on-site assistance for the Young Farmer Conference (Jan 30-31, 2015).
·          Coordinate Young Farmer Awards and contests: Discussion Meet (Dec. 2-3, 2014 & Jan. 31, 2015), including coaching for finalists; coordinate Achievement and Bob Joslin Awards.
·         Prepare and provide on-site support for Young Farmer Advisory Committee meetings (July 11-12 & Dec. 2, 2014, Jan. 30, 2015) and activities.
·         Assist with Young Farmer outreach efforts,   social media and State Fair activities (Aug. 9, 2014).
·         Research and prepare training materials (e.g., visuals, handouts). Provide on-site assistance for county/regional leadership programs, including Ag Leaders Institute and County Presidents Conferences.
·         The position requires some travel, weekend and evening hours, occasional overnight stays.

Schedule & Wages
May-August: full-time hours available
Spring & Fall Semester: part-time (min. 10-12 hours/week)
$10/hour

Selection Criteria    
·         Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
·         Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills.
·         Interest in, and knowledge of, the agriculture industry
·         Regular and predictable attendance
·         Reliable transportation
