Land O’ Lakes has once again offered to provide a video feed for the Planet Forward Summit in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, October 30 from 1:00 – 2:15 pm in 13 Curtiss Hall.   The summit features a CEO Panel that will discuss feeding 9 billion people by 2050, global applications and the nature of public-private partnerships to feed the world.

NCGA Scholarship

Please be advised that the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is again offering its William C. Berg Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship thanks to the sponsorship of BASF Corporation.

Five (5) one thousand dollar ($1,000) scholarships are available to students entering at least their second undergraduate year (or any year of graduate school) pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in an agricultural, agribusiness, or an ag vocation field.

Applicants or a parent/guardian must be a member of the NCGA.  Funds are for the 2014-2015 school year.  Past scholarship winners and employees and the families of employees of any division of BASF or their subsidiaries or the NCGA are not eligible for the scholarship.

Applications must be postmarked on or before December 13, 2013.

The NCGA-BASF college scholarship program has been named in honor of Ohio farmer William C. Berg.  A retired postal worker and farmer for more than 40 years, Bill served in various positions for both the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association and the National Corn Growers Association.  He served as a judge for the NCGA-BASF scholarship program for its first five years and recommended many important adjustments to it that have ensured its continued success and enhanced the experience of the scholarship recipients. Bill passed away unexpectedly in 2012 and NCGA and Ohio Corn wished to honor his legacy. Program recipients can be proud to receive a scholarship honoring this staunch supporter of modern American agriculture.

NCBA Accepting Applications for 2014 Cattle Industry Convention Internships

WASHINGTON (Oct. 7, 2013) – The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s (NCBA) government affairs office in Washington, D.C., is accepting applications for internships during the 2014 Cattle Industry Convention in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 3-7, 2014. The deadline to submit an application for this opportunity is Oct. 27, 2013. The Cattle Industry Convention is the oldest and largest convention for the cattle business. The 2014 event will be the 116th annual convention. The convention and trade show create a unique, fun environment for cattle industry members to come together to network and create policy for the industry. “Our internship positions provide a unique opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience and to interact with leaders from every segment of the cattle and beef industry,” said NCBA Public Policy Analyst Mallory Gaines. “The convention internship program provides an excellent opportunity to network with people throughout the beef industry. NCBA strives to provide time for students to maximize their opportunities to network and learn during the upcoming convention in Nashville.” The annual Cattle Industry Convention boasts over 5,500 attendees and a trade show with more than 250 booths. Interns are offered a unique, behind-the-scenes experience of setting up the trade show, manning the NCBA Political Action Committee (NCBA-PAC) booth, assisting with the NCBA-PAC auction, helping members vote on NCBA policy, working with the media and helping to guide cattlemen and cattlewomen to convention events. Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer and Leadership Intern

Purpose The intern position exists for an individual to gain experience and assist the Iowa Farm Bureau in the implementation the Young Farmer program and leadership development activities. The Young Farmer program provides education and networking for young farmers. The Leadership program helps volunteers develop their abilities to lead county Farm Bureaus. The candidate should have strong verbal and written skills and will need to be adaptable to handle a variety of activities with Farm Bureau staff and volunteer involvement. Projects & Responsibilities ·         Preparation and on-site assistance for the Young Farmer Conference (Jan 30-31, 2015). ·          Coordinate Young Farmer Awards and contests: Discussion Meet (Dec. 2-3, 2014 & Jan. 31, 2015), including coaching for finalists; coordinate Achievement and Bob Joslin Awards. ·         Prepare and provide on-site support for Young Farmer Advisory Committee meetings (July 11-12 & Dec. 2, 2014, Jan. 30, 2015) and activities. ·         Assist with Young Farmer outreach efforts,   social media and State Fair activities (Aug. 9, 2014). ·         Research and prepare training materials (e.g., visuals, handouts). Provide on-site assistance for county/regional leadership programs, including Ag Leaders Institute and County Presidents Conferences. ·         The position requires some travel, weekend and evening hours, occasional overnight stays.
