On behalf of AGRILAND FS and the Agriland FS Foundation, we’re pleased to offer two new scholarships this year for individuals with parents living in our trade territory. (Please see map below) One - $1,000 Community College – 2nd year scholarship— typically designed for the student currently enrolled in community college as an ag business, ag tech, precision ag, or ag transfer major. One - $1,500 University or four-year College Institution – 3rd year scholarship— for ag major with minor or emphasis in agronomy/crop production.  Applicants may be a community college ag transfer student or a current undergraduate student at a four-year university. CPS wholesale division is seeking qualified students interested in an internship position for summer of 2014.  This will be a full time position in which compensation will be received.  There will be multiple positions available in the Western Corn Belt Region.

Crop Production Services Wholesale Division

                        Crop Production Services Wholesale is a division of Crop Production Services which is the largest Ag retail company in the U.S. CPS is owned by its parent company Agrium which is a wholesale fertilizer corporation based out of Canada. The wholesale division is the distribution business of supplying Co-op’s and independently owned Ag retail businesses with chemical and fertilizer. We supply products from several manufactures including, but not limited to Syngenta, Monsanto, Bayer, BASF, Dow, FMC, etc. We also have our own product line up called Loveland Products Incorporated along with our own seed brand DynaGro.

Qualifications

ü  Must be pursuing a degree in an Agricultural related major.

ü  Knowledge and experience with Agronomy or Sales is desired.

ü  Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Position Description

 Interns will be working with CPS wholesale sales representatives to help promotes sales and market unique products to customers which are Coops or Independently owned Ag retail businesses. Interns will primarily use our NutriScription program.  Each intern will learn the Nutriscription program and process so that they are able to generate tissue samples and assist sales representatives with setting up accounts with CPS wholesale clientele.  The interns will primarily work with the sales representative and Nutriscription specialist by his or herself, however the interns will work as a team in an effort to promote the program and Loveland Products Inc.

 Interns will also be involved in test plots, product trials and other projects where interns will engage in research and expected to record data.  Each intern will have an individual project that they will also work on during the summer.  At the end of the summer each intern will give an informative presentation on their project and internship alike.

Skills Required

Ø Excellent written and verbal communication skills and must have the ability to effectively communicate via cell phone and email etc.

Ø Must have ability to use basic computer functions such as Microsoft word, excel and power point.

Ø Interns must possess the attributes needed to lead presentations, answer questions and problem solve.

Ø Must be a self starter that has strong organizational skills and time management abilities.

Schedule

            This position is typically 40 hours a week.  Interns can expect this time divided into an array of tasks related to NutriScription and Loveland Products in order to expose them to several valuable experiences and opportunities.

NASDA Seeking Applicants for 2014 Internship Opportunities

NASDA is currently seeking highly motivated public policy interns interested in learning about the legislation and regulations that impact American agriculture. There is one internship position available per semester and we most urgently need applications for the upcoming spring semester(January - May).

Applicants should be classified as a sophomore or greater by their academic institution and have excellent written and oral communication skills. A basic understanding of the legislative process is preferred but not required.
Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

·         Conduct research on various legislative issues of importance to NASDA’s membership

·         Represent NASDA in Congressional hearings, conference calls, and other venues, and provide written analysis of these events to policy staff members

·         Write articles covering various agricultural issues for NASDA’s weekly newsletters

·         Manage logistics, provide operational support, and interface with senior state and federal agriculture policy makers in a fast-paced environment during NASDA’s Annual Meeting (Fall) or Winter Policy Conference (Spring)

·         Answer phones, monitor Congressional calendar, manage House and Senate e-mail distribution lists, and distribute mail to staff

Interns are paid for their time at NASDA but housing is not provided.

Young Leader Scholarship Program

The Mid America CropLife Association is pleased to announce the continuation of the Young Leader Scholarship Program (YLSP) for the second year as we believe it benefit students who have an interest in agriculture.   MACA is an association made up of basic manufacturers, distributors/formulators and allied industry from the crop protection industry.  The program details are attached.

Participation:  Please accept this email as an introduction to the scholarship program that MACA designed to encourage more young people to be involved in agriculture.  We believe there is a bright future ahead.  In the next few days, one of the MACA volunteers who is a member of the MACA leadership team will be contacting you to discuss this program and to encourage your participation as well as answer any questions you might have.

Next Steps: 

1. Your help is needed to get the word out to potential students who meet the qualifications for having enough credits and an internship arranged for the summer of 2014  and are interested in completing a scholarship application. 
2. An application for the students to complete and submit has been developed and is attached to this email for your use.  Please note the contact person needs to be added to the application on page 6.
3. Then we ask that you work with the appropriate people at your college to select the two finalists and submit their names and applications by February 7, 2014 for MACA’s review to determine the scholarship winner.

5. MACA plans to review the program after the 2014 MACA Annual Meeting in an effort to build on the program to make it better in the future.

MACA Background:  MACA is a non-profit association composed of basic manufacturers, distributors/formulators, seed companies and allied industry such as consultants, warehouse and technology companies that provide product and services for the crop protection industry in the Midwest.  We have about 60 member companies which include basic manufacturers BASF, Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences, DuPont, Monsanto, and Syngenta Crop Protection.  The distribution/formulator members include:  Crop Production Services, GROWMARK, Inc., Helena Chemical Company, MFA plus several others.  The Midwest region covers the states of Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

MACA Annual Meeting:  The MACA Annual Meeting occurs at the beginning of the industry’s marketing year (September – August) and as a result various company executives and key members of their sales, marketing, and regulatory staff attend the meeting.  In addition, several industry trade journals and broadcast media usually cover the meeting.  Normally there are 100-110 people present for the program as they are interested in the various issues and perspectives.  Attached is a flyer which showcases the 2013 recipients that you may want to post or share with potential students.

NCGA Scholarship

Please be advised that the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is again offering its William C. Berg Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship thanks to the sponsorship of BASF Corporation.

Five (5) one thousand dollar ($1,000) scholarships are available to students entering at least their second undergraduate year (or any year of graduate school) pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in an agricultural, agribusiness, or an ag vocation field.

Applicants or a parent/guardian must be a member of the NCGA.  Funds are for the 2014-2015 school year.  Past scholarship winners and employees and the families of employees of any division of BASF or their subsidiaries or the NCGA are not eligible for the scholarship.

Applications must be postmarked on or before December 13, 2013.

The NCGA-BASF college scholarship program has been named in honor of Ohio farmer William C. Berg.  A retired postal worker and farmer for more than 40 years, Bill served in various positions for both the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association and the National Corn Growers Association.  He served as a judge for the NCGA-BASF scholarship program for its first five years and recommended many important adjustments to it that have ensured its continued success and enhanced the experience of the scholarship recipients. Bill passed away unexpectedly in 2012 and NCGA and Ohio Corn wished to honor his legacy. Program recipients can be proud to receive a scholarship honoring this staunch supporter of modern American agriculture.

WASHINGTON (Oct. 7, 2013) – The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s (NCBA) government affairs office in Washington, D.C., is accepting applications for internships during the 2014 Cattle Industry Convention in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 3-7, 2014. The deadline to submit an application for this opportunity is Oct. 27, 2013. The Cattle Industry Convention is the oldest and largest convention for the cattle business. The 2014 event will be the 116th annual convention. The convention and trade show create a unique, fun environment for cattle industry members to come together to network and create policy for the industry. “Our internship positions provide a unique opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience and to interact with leaders from every segment of the cattle and beef industry,” said NCBA Public Policy Analyst Mallory Gaines. “The convention internship program provides an excellent opportunity to network with people throughout the beef industry. NCBA strives to provide time for students to maximize their opportunities to network and learn during the upcoming convention in Nashville.” The annual Cattle Industry Convention boasts over 5,500 attendees and a trade show with more than 250 booths. Purpose The intern position exists for an individual to gain experience and assist the Iowa Farm Bureau in the implementation the Young Farmer program and leadership development activities. The Young Farmer program provides education and networking for young farmers. The Leadership program helps volunteers develop their abilities to lead county Farm Bureaus.
